Freelance work for Chromatica Chorale.

Since 2023, I have done freelance graphic design work for Chromatica Chorale, a mid-sized community choir based in Danville, CA. Each fall and spring concert has a theme and I work with the Choir's board to design the marketing materials to promote the concert and later design the program handed out at the concert.
Spring 2025 - If Stars Could Sing
The Spring 2025 concert featured music about stars (physical, astronomical stars as opposed to metaphorical stars as in the Fall 2024 concert). For the marketing materials, the choir wanted imagery with the Bay Area and a constellation, so I made this composite image from two different photos and added a recognizable constellation to it. The printed program for this concert posed the challenge of making the interior interesting while keeping it greyscale. I used a constellation motif along the bottom of each interior page, arranging the constellations in actual alignment as they are in the sky and putting a mirror image of each alignment along the bottom of a pair of pages, so that when one physical page is help up, you can see light shining through the page where the star is an absence of ink.

Fall 2024 - Rising Stars
For the Fall 2024 concert, the choir wanted the imagery to convey the "hotness" of these up-and-coming American composers, which I accomplished by using a starburst graphic behind their photos. I used photoshop to create the transparent background of each photo as well as generative AI to expand a photo's background where necessary.

Spring 2024 - Transfigurations
This concert was focused around a commissioned piece of music involving a well known composer and lyricist, so the choir wanted to do an early save the date postcard in addition to their normal posters with matching postcard. We made a 24 page printed concert booklet that was distributed during the shows. In addition to formatting the entire booklet and adding some creative elements, such as a decorative stripe along the edges of content pages (to distinguish them from ad pages), I also helped to create some of the ads or resize them from existing business cards and submitted ads. The concert was immensely successful! The choir printed about a hundred more programs than normal, but attendance was so strong that they ran out of programs.

Fall 2023 - We Remember
For this concert, the choir wanted the theme of remembrance but in a way that was hopeful. After many proposed photos, we settled on this still from a film clip I had taken many years ago, focusing on the empty bench and sunlight coming through the tree. For this concert we made a trifold brochure to hand out at the concert and had a link to a full program PDF that concert goers could read on their phone.
