Here I Am

Poem Animation

A typographic animation of a poem I wrote along with an animated drawing.

I wrote the poem "Here I Am" while in college after going out for a walk on an icy winter morning. The challenge here was to animate the poem with just using the type, no additional graphics or imagery. I used one typeface for consistency and manipulated the position and movement of the text to convey the poem. I animated a digital drawing I made in the style of those by Paul Norton (see his work @ faroffprocessions on Instagram) to have the line art spread across the screen to evoke ice crystals gathering across windows. I made the drawing in Illustrator and separated each line into its own layer to animate it with the "trim paths" function in After Effects. The type in the poem was also animated in After Effects and the final film was compiled in Premiere Pro.
